The death toll from the aftermath of category 5 hurricane Otis has reached 52, with an additional 32 individuals still reported missing in Mexico, according to government sources. The search efforts, both on land and at sea, are ongoing, as confirmed by Guerrero state Governor Evelyn Salgado. Governor Salgado provided an update, stating that 31 people remain missing at sea, with one person still unaccounted for on land. This official announcement comes a month after families of missing sailors protested, expressing concerns that authorities had seemingly halted the search for their loved ones. Hurricane Otis struck Mexico’s southern Pacific coast on October 25, causing severe damage to hotels and residential infrastructure in Acapulco and Coyuca de Benitez. Governor Salgado emphasized the importance of the tourist reactivation of Acapulco, a well-known seaside resort, after nearly two months. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador expressed his expectation for the rebirth of Acapulco and the full recovery of the population in the neighboring Coyuca de Benitez.
