The Congress party unveiled its nationwide ‘Donate for Desh’ crowdfunding initiative aimed at mobilizing resources for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Scheduled to launch on December 18 in Delhi by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, the campaign encourages Indians aged 18 and above to contribute a minimum of Rs 138 or multiples thereof, aligning with the party’s 138-year history.
Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s Tilak Swaraj Fund, initiated in 1920-21, the campaign aspires to empower the Congress in shaping a more equitably resourced and opportunistic India. The initiative embraces online channels through a dedicated portal at donateinc.in and the official Congress website at inc.in. Ground campaigns, including door-to-door visits and targeting at least 10 houses in every booth for contributions, will follow online efforts. The campaign will be primarily online until December 28, the party’s foundation day. State-level office-bearers, elected representatives, and party officials are encouraged to contribute, emphasizing a strategic approach for the campaign’s effectiveness.
Additionally, a mammoth rally is planned in Nagpur on December 28 to commemorate the Congress party’s 138th foundation day, with an anticipated attendance of at least 10 lakh people. The campaign is envisioned as one of India’s largest crowdfunding efforts by a political party, fostering a connection with supporters under the tagline INC needs you, INDIA needs you, for a better desh.
