The Lok Sabha Secretariat has taken stringent action by suspending eight security personnel implicated in the recent security breach at the Parliament, according to sources on Thursday. The individuals facing suspension are Rampal, Arvind, Vir Das, Ganesh Anil, Pardeep, Vimitt, and Narender. The incident unfolded when two intruders, Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma, infiltrated the Lok Sabha from the visitors’ gallery, deploying smoke cans. Delhi Police subsequently apprehended them. Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde, two others, were also detained outside Parliament for a similar offense. All four face charges under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
This security lapse coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack. The intruders, during Zero Hour, leapt from the visitors’ gallery into the Lower House chamber, creating chaos. As MPs attempted to apprehend them, the intruders moved across seats, releasing yellow gas and shouting slogans before being subdued. Following the breach, the Secretary General of Lok Sabha contacted the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) requesting a security review. Consequently, a decision was made to suspend the issuance of passes for the visitors’ gallery until further notice. The Ministry of Home Affairs responded promptly by ordering an inquiry into the security breach. An enquiry committee, headed by Central Reserve Police Force Director General Anish Dayal Singh and comprising members from various security agencies and experts, was established. The committee’s mandate is to investigate the breach, identify lapses, and recommend necessary actions to enhance Parliament’s security. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in response to concerns raised by political party leaders, assured a comprehensive review of security measures.
