Following the inauguration of Swachhanjali, the relaunch of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan 2.0 on October 1, a monthly Swachhata Shramadan took place in the vicinity of the Clock Tower in Hampankatta. The participants actively engaged in cleanliness activities to enhance the surrounding area.
The Shramadan was held in the presence of Ramakrishna Math Head Mangaluru Swami Jitakamanandaji, Executive Director of MRPL BHV Prasad.
Director of SCS Hospital Dr Chandrashekar Sorake flagged off the Shramadan.
Prasad said, today at the government level if issues regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan are discussed, Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission is always mentioned on a high note. It has won over the hearts of the public due to the sincere and dedicated efforts of monks of the mission and the volunteers.
Swami Jitakamanandaji said, the first phase of Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan undertaken from 2014 to 2019 was successful in creating awareness. In the second phase, monthly shramadan and door-to-door awareness campaigns will be highlighted.
The volunteers cleaned the surroundings of Clock Tower, including the fountain area and cleared the stagnant water, which was the breeding ground of mosquitoes. Physiotherapy students of Nitte Physiotherapy College under the leadership of lecturers Rakesh Krishna and Neha Shetty cleaned the compound walls of Wenlock District Hospital and University College and the wall paintings related to the Abhiyan and Mangaluru heritage.
Ramakrishna Math is conducting Youwa residential youth camps for college students every weekend at the Ashrama. About 20 youths from the camp under Army Veterans Bellala Gopinath Rao, Gopal and CA Abhiram Shivakumar participated in the Shramadan. They cleaned the road from Wenlock Hospital to Clock Tower and the road dividers.
MLA Vedavyas D Kamath, former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik and others participated in the cleaning activity.
