All the festivals in the border district   are celebrated in a grand and unique manner. The buffalo race, organised in various parts of the city on the occasion of Gudi Padwa on the occasion of Diwali, enthralled the onlookers. The people were impressed by the beauty of the buffaloes.

The buffalo is the real Goddess Lakshmi for the cowherds here. They work hard to earn a living by grazing the buffaloes well, milking and selling them throughout the year, and when Diwali comes, they decorate, roast and drive buffaloes in the race. This time too, the buffalo race was celebrated by the cowherds and buffalo lovers.

On the occasion of Balipadyami, buffalo races were organised at various places including  Chavata Galli, Camp area, Gowli Galli in Tilakwadi, Gondhali Galli, Gandhi Nagar, Vadagavi, Konavala Galli, Friday Pet and other places. The buffaloes were decorated with a string of kavades, their rods painted and adorned with peacock feathers, attracted everyone’s attention.

The silence of the bike was removed and the youths were seen riding the bike at a high speed, while the buffaloes were seen running after them. People standing by the side of the road cheered the buffaloes with whistles and applause. While some of the youths were running in front of the buffalo with black clothes, the buffaloes were running in a fit of rage.

Prabhakar Jadhav and Mahesh Mohite of Chavata Gali said, we have been driving buffaloes on Gudi Padava day since the time of our elders. This shows how much the owner loves the buffaloes. Human beings wear new clothes on all festivals. Therefore, to decorate the buffaloes at least once a year, one buffalo is more attractively decorated than one. It gives us a lot of fun, he said.
