In a major relief for homeowners across Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the state government has approved the issuance of Occupancy Certificates (OC) for houses built on 30×40 sites, enabling them to obtain legal electricity connections.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Marikamba Temple in Malur, Kolar, Shivakumar shared the update, describing it as “good news for lakhs of residents.” He said the decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting held earlier in the day. “In Bengaluru alone, nearly three to four lakh people have constructed homes on 30×40 plots. The new approval will make it easier for them to secure electricity and other essential services,” he said.

Shivakumar made the announcement soon after offering prayers at the temple, emphasizing that this long-awaited decision will bring relief to countless middle-class families who had been struggling to get regularized electricity connections due to technical and legal hurdles.

He also provided updates on the Ettinahole water project, stating that most pipeline work has already been completed, though land acquisition in some parts of Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts is still pending.

Responding to opposition criticism, Shivakumar said, “The BJP claims that water will not reach Kolar, but this is not their project—it belongs to our government. The BJP had opposed the plan from the beginning. We are committed to completing it and ensuring water supply to the region.”
