A mega tractor rally is being organized from April 13th to 17th to demand completion Krishna-Mahadayi-Navli projects. The rally will start from Nargund, said SR Patil, North Karnataka Swamibhami Vedike President, in a press conference.
The public awareness programme will be taken up regarding regional disparities in irrigation and other issues, he said.
The districts of North Karnataka have been deprived of development due to lack of adequate utilization of the rivers of North Karnataka. The number of people who go into the non-industrial area is also high. Our struggle is not against any party, nor individual. It aims to educate everyone. He hoped the fight would lead to a larger revolution.
He urged the government to complete the UKP, MAHADI and the neoliberal projects to eliminate regional inequality.
The 15 lakh acres of land in 7 districts of North Karnataka should be irrigated using 130 tmc of water allocated to the Krishna Upland Scheme Phase-I established by the then Prime Minister The Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1964. He urged the victims of the scheme to be rehabilitated.
The tractor rally will start from Nargund on the 13th April.
Support of various organizations
The Mahadayi Campaign Committee, State Farmers’ Organization, Bagalkot Nadagadde Horata Committee, Uttar Karnataka Construction Forum, Krishna Upland Planning Safety Committee, Karnataka Defense Forum, Kuthi Basavanna Fight Committee, Krishna Shoreline Welfare Organizations have supported the struggle by farmers. About 100 tractors will be taking part in the rally.
The closing of the rally
Starting from Naragund on the 13th, the rally will travel to the surrounding villages of Badami and halt at Shiva Yogi Temple. They will travel around Bagalkot on the 14th and will be staying at Kudalasangama. On the 15th, Basavana Bagewadi and Vijayapur district will be covered and halt at the Nandi Sugar Factory. On the 16th it will travel in Mudhol region and a conference has been arranged on 17th April, he said.
Former legislator BR Yavagal, MN Patiala, Raju Gowda Patil, Prakasandha, Ravi Budni and Matti were also present.
