Government Seeks Supreme Court’s Permission To Allocate Remaining Medical Seats

The Karnataka Examination Authority has successfully conducted the digital allocation of government and private medical seats in the state this year, leaving no room for seat blocking tactics. However, following the completion of the seat allotment process, 146 medical seats remain unallocated in the state. To ensure that these seats do not go to waste and to fulfill the dreams of students aspiring to pursue medical education, the Government of Karnataka has made a formal request to the Supreme Court. The state government has approached the Supreme Court with the aim of assisting its students and addressing the surplus of unallocated medical seats this year. As the window for seat redistribution has lapsed, the Supreme Court’s intervention has become crucial. The Court has been petitioned to grant a two-week extension for the re-allocation of the remaining medical seats, ensuring that no student misses the opportunity for a medical education. The allocation of these remaining seats will be contingent on the Court’s decision to grant permission. A favorable ruling would provide a significant opportunity for the state’s students, increasing their chances of securing a medical education. Historically, many students from the state have sought medical education abroad due to the unavailability of seats within the state. However, this year presents an opportunity to accommodate both government and private quota seats, and the government’s appeal to the Court aims to make this possible. The outcome will be determined by the Court’s decision, which is eagerly awaited.
