Injured passenger taken to Victoria Hospital; Green Line operations paused, disrupting thousands of daily city commuters

Bengaluru

In a distressing incident, a man attempted suicide by jumping in front of an approaching metro train at Bengaluru’s bustling Nadaprabhu Kemepegowda station, commonly known as Majestic, on Saturday afternoon. The event unfolded at 3:17 pm on platform 3 of the Green Line, which connects Madavara to the Silk Institute. Eyewitnesses reported the passenger leaping onto the tracks just as the train neared the platform, sending shockwaves through commuters.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) staff on the ground sprang into action with remarkable efficiency. They immediately shut off the power supply to the electrified tracks, preventing any potential electrocution or further harm. Rescue teams quickly reached the man, ensuring his safe extraction from the tracks. This swift intervention underscored the importance of trained personnel at metro stations, where such emergencies, though rare, require split-second decisions to safeguard lives.

The injured passenger was promptly shifted to Victoria Hospital for urgent medical attention. His condition remains undisclosed, but authorities confirmed he was alive upon arrival. The incident caused a temporary halt in full Green Line operations, leading to inconvenience for thousands of daily commuters who rely on this key corridor for travel across the city.

To minimize disruption, partial services continued between Madavara and Rajajinagar, as well as from National College to Silk Institute stations. This segmented operation helped maintain connectivity for affected passengers, who were advised to use alternative routes or buses. Full regular services on the Green Line were restored by 3:47 pm, just 30 minutes later, allowing normalcy to return swiftly.

According to K Anitha a media professional who was travelling on the metro during  from Konankunte to Cubbon Park and who witnessed the incident said “the train stopped abruptly and we could hear a huge sound. The doors were locked and people who were waiting to board the train started gathering around. We could see security personnel moving around in panic and we figured out that someone has come under the train. The metro driver came inside the compartment and opened the doors manually. The doors remained locked for around 15 to 20 minutes. I saw the security personnel carry a man on a stretcher  in his mid-forties  clad in a black pant and white shirt with blood strewn all over his body and a badly injured arm being carried away’’.
