‘HOAX’ BOMB THREAT TO SCHOOLS

Students evacuated, police search school premises

Gopalan International School in Hoodi near Mahadevapura, Delhi Public School at Sulikunte in Varthur, St. Vincent Pallotti School in Hennur and The New Indian Public School in Govindapura falling under the jurisdiction of Bengaluru city police commissionerate received the threat emails. Similar emails were also sent to the management of Ebenezer International School in Huskur in Hebbagodi police station limits, Redbridge International Academy on Begur-Koppa Road, and Candor International School on Koppa Road, both in Bannerghatta police station limits, in Bengaluru Rural district.

Most of the schools that received the email are located in East Bengaluru. The bomb squad and sniffer dogs are at the schools conducted a thorough search. The police have sealed the area and a parent said  that students have been asked to go home, and that the schools will arrange transportation.   

The email that was sent to the schools said that a bomb has been planted in the school and that it was “not a joke.” “Immediately call the police and sappers, hundreds of lives may suffer, including yours, do not delay, now everything is only in your hands,” the email stated, as per a screenshot. 

According to the DCP of East Zone, Bheemashankar Guled, police officers in the area received calls from at least two schools about the incident — Indian Public School in Govindpura limits and the St Vincent Pallotti school. Officers have been deputed to the spot and are investigating the situation, he said. He added that the identity of those behind the bomb threats has not been ascertained yet. 

A parent of a child who attends one of the schools that received the email, told that the students were asked to go home, with other schools that received the threat arranging transport to send the children back. However, the incident has led to many schools in other parts of the city sending their students home as a precautionary measure. According to reports, the schools that received the email include the Indian Public School, St Vincent Pallotti chool, Ebenezer International School, and others.

The police have said that they are further investigating the matter and ascertaining whether there is a real threat to the schools. However, the identity of those responsible for sending the email has not yet been established.
