In a massive demonstration that unfolded across Bengaluru on Monday, private transport employees, rickshaw pullers, and cab drivers rallied to demand compensation for their losses under the Shakti Yojana. However, amidst the protests, an unfortunate incident occurred where demonstrators turned violent against a Rapido bike rider who inadvertently found himself amidst the unrest. Protesters on motorcycles and in taxis took to the streets, their grievances writ large. In a distressing turn of events, a group of protesters confronted a Rapido bike rider, who was ferrying a passenger near Mysore Bank Circle. Tempers flared, leading to an altercation resulting in injuries to the bike rider. Moreover, the protesters directed their ire towards two-wheeler riders, expressing their discontent. Conversely, the two-wheeler rider, caught up in the turmoil, expressed his frustration towards the auto drivers who had initiated the protest. This exchange escalated tensions further, with auto drivers forcibly removing the helmet of the two-wheeler rider. The situation took a troubling turn as protesters targeted auto drivers operating in the city, offering advice and voicing their discontent. Autos began congregating around Mysore Bank Circle, forming a formidable procession that headed toward Freedom Park. Auto drivers emphasized that their struggle would persist until their demands were met, underscoring a long-standing issue that no government had adequately addressed. They vowed to continue their struggle even beyond the day’s bandh. The protests reflect the growing frustration among transport workers seeking compensation and support from the Shakti Yojana, as they grapple with economic hardships. However, the unfortunate incident involving the Rapido bike rider serves as a stark reminder of the volatile nature of such demonstrations and the need for peaceful expression of grievances.
