The main suspect in the tragic killing of trainee airhostess Rupal Ogrey from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on September 3rd, has reportedly taken his own life by hanging himself in the police lockup. This tragic incident occurred just hours before he was scheduled to appear in court for an extension of his police remand. Officials confirmed these developments on Friday. Vikram Atwal, aged 40, had been apprehended by the Powai Police Station’s team early on Monday, shortly after he had fatally attacked Ogrey, who was 24 years old, by slitting her throat at her residence in the upscale Marol area of Andheri east. A resident of Tunga in the Marol locality, Atwal was set to appear in court on Friday afternoon for the extension of his custodial remand. However, earlier in the day, he entered the lockup’s restroom and did not emerge for an extended period. Consequently, police officers had to forcibly enter the restroom and discovered him hanging from a pipe using his own clothes. Atwal’s family, including his wife and two daughters, have been notified of his tragic death, and authorities are currently conducting further investigations into this deeply unfortunate turn of events.
