The Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators’ Association, led by its president Azeez Parthipady, conducted an awareness campaign among bus drivers and conductors regarding passenger safety in Nanthoor on Saturday, September 2. This initiative followed a tragic incident in which a bus conductor slipped from the bus footboard at Nanthoor, resulting in his death. This incident raised concerns about passenger safety in private buses. In response, the police commissioner took strict action against buses, filing 163 cases related to footboard travel and 24 cases based on public complaints. The president and office bearers of the Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators’ Association addressed private bus conductors who were not using ticket machines to issue tickets. They emphasized the importance of respecting passengers, not traveling on the footboard, maintaining a dress code, and adhering to rules regarding shrill horns, loud music systems, Chalo cards, and uniforms. They also advised against stopping buses in places other than designated bus stands. The Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators’ Association announced their intention to conduct similar awareness campaigns at every junction on an ongoing basis. General Secretary Ramachandra Pilar and other office bearers were present during the campaign.
