Amid price rise and inflation, the state government has launched the Gruha Lakshmi scheme to empower women economically, said MLC Manjunath Bhandary.
Inaugurating the Gruha Lakshmi scheme of providing financial aid of Rs 2,000 to the women head of families in the state, at a programme organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, City Corporation and Women and Child Development Department, he said that the poor were reeling due to the price rise of essential commodities, including LPG.
Taking note of this situation, the party leaders decided to implement this scheme, for women’s empowerment, during the state assembly elections, and included it in the manifesto. This will help women in providing nutritious food to children and pay for their education, and thus the children will be academically strong, he said.
The implementation of this comprehensive scheme, which directly provides funds to 1.3 crore Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries in the state, is being watched with interest across the world, he said. This is one of the successful programmes of the state government, and with the implementation of the scheme, the lives of women in the state are reaching new heights. Among the five guarantees, four of them have already been launched, he said.
The inaugural programme of the scheme was telecast live from Mysuru at 296 places in the district, and at 33 places in the City Corporation limits. The district has 2,38,352 beneficiaries.
