Jayadeva Metro Station: A Marvel Of Design And Innovation

Must read

Bengaluru

The Jayadeva Metro Station is set to achieve new heights—literally—as it stands as a potential contender for the title of the highest metro station in the country. With a design that ingeniously combines road and rail components, spanning across six levels, this station is a true marvel of engineering and architecture. Its elevation reaches an impressive 38 meters above the subway level at R6, making it a strong contender for the nation’s tallest metro station. A Metro official shed light on the intricacies of the project, outlining its multi-phase development. The first phase encompasses the Bannerghatta to Dairy Circle underpass, while the second stage links Ragigudda to Central Silk Board road at grade level. The third phase introduces a flyover above this road, followed by the fourth phase which introduces the metro concourse level. The fifth phase involves a metro line connecting RV Road and Bommasandra, with the final stage culminating in the Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara Metro line. Innovation takes center stage as well, with plans to introduce advanced communication technology between trains. The adoption of a computer-based train control system over traditional ‘distance to go’ signaling is a significant step forward. This innovative system features a communication ‘bubble’ that enables interaction between passing trains, particularly suited for unattended train operation. The successful integration of signaling and rolling stock interface required meticulous design verification, showcasing the commitment to safety and efficiency. While the metro has already established connectivity to Whitefield, the link between KR Puram and Baiyappanahalli is on the horizon. However, the connectivity to the Electronic City tech corridor might face some delays due to potential setbacks in procuring train coaches. Efforts have been made to secure 216 coaches from the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, with delivery of the first sets scheduled for August.
