Amidst a surge in robbery incidents along the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, the police have ramped up patrolling efforts to ensure the safety of travelers. Over the course of two months, three separate incidents of car robberies have occurred within the 55-kilometer stretch of the highway situated in the Mandya district. In response to these incidents, authorities have taken measures to enhance security and prevent further criminal activities in the area. The recent incidents have raised concerns among both commuters and law enforcement agencies. On July 1, Muttappa, who was en route to Bengaluru for medical treatment, fell victim to an armed robbery near Maddur. While taking a rest stop during his journey, he was confronted by robbers who seized jewelry and cash amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh. Following the incident, he promptly lodged a complaint with the Maddur police station. Subsequently, on August 13, two separate robbery cases were reported within the same region. A couple from Kolar, Rakshith Reddy and Manasa Reddy, were targeted near Shettyhalli in Mandya district while changing a punctured tire. Bike-riding assailants robbed them of jewels worth Rs 1.70 lakh. Another incident involved a family from Udupi, who were robbed near Srirangapatna. Impersonating police personnel, two men halted their car under the pretense of inspection, only to threaten and steal jewelry and cash totaling Rs 1.50 lakh from the family. These incidents have prompted swift action from the authorities. In response to the escalating robberies, increased patrolling measures have been implemented along the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway. The aim is to safeguard the safety and security of travelers, deter potential criminal activities, and restore a sense of security to the highway. As local law enforcement agencies work to apprehend the culprits and prevent future occurrences, the heightened police presence serves as a reminder of their commitment to public safety.
