HDSCL Bags Smart City Award

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has announced the Smart City Awards 2022 for three cities in the state for various developments. Hubli-Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL) bagged first place, Shivamogga and Belagavi have also won the award.
For the category, Innovative Idea Award, the HDSCL has bagged first place for Nala Renovation and Green Mobility Corridor project. The source said that President Droupadi Murmu will felicitate the winners of India Smart Cities Awards Contest 2022 on September 27, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
The vision of the project is to promote a non-motorised transportation system in the city by creating green corridors and by linking the city across transit nodes. With an aim to improve the quality of life for citizens in the City  by encouraging cycling and walkability, HDSCL aims to develop a 9km long non-motorised corridor along the Unkal Nala (storm water drain).
Newly appointed HDSCL Managing Director, Rudresh Gali told, the Nala is 9.2km and the construction of green mobility corridor is under process. The project is developing in two phases and so far 5 km of work has been completed. Retaining walls at both sides of Nala, cycle track, fencing, gym, kids play area, public activity zone and park will be constructed.
