Pro-Maratha activist Manoj Jarange-Patil on Thursday urged the Maharashtra government to implement its September 2 government resolution (GR) and issue Kunbi certificates to Maratha community members at taluka levels without delay. Speaking at a Dussehra rally in Narayan Gad, he warned of “peaceful but firm” action if demands are ignored.
Jarange-Patil welcomed the GR on Maratha reservation but criticised delays, calling it “useless without action.” He demanded verifiable OBC heritage certificates for all eligible Marathas, not just a token 10% quota. He warned against provoking the community, promising strong action if necessary.
He also called for granting agriculture the status of a job and proposed a monthly salary of ₹10,000 for farmers with less than 10 acres, saying it would encourage youth to work in farming. “Who wants a job in agriculture worth ₹10,000?” he asked, receiving widespread affirmation from attendees. He appealed to farmers not to sell farmland.
Highlighting damage from heavy rains and floods, he demanded the government declare a wet drought, provide ₹70,000 per hectare aid, full loan waivers, ₹1.30 lakh per hectare for riverbank farmers, jobs for affected families, and guaranteed crop prices. He warned elections would be stalled if demands were unmet before Diwali.
Jarange-Patil affirmed his commitment to Maratha rights despite health challenges, urging unity within the community and saying, “We must become administrators and rulers so leaders will bow to us.” His speech underscored pressing demands for recognition, support, and unity among farmers and the Maratha community.
