If everything goes according to plan, the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) will take up pothole filling works at a cost of Rs 3.7 crore across twin cities in a couple of weeks.
The engineers of HDMC have conducted a survey of potholes and listed them based on their percentage, from 5 to 25 percent. According to a survey, 34,264 square metres of road have been damaged due to rain and other reasons, creating problems for motorists every day and posing danger of accidents.
Looking at the public demand to improve road works, HDMC authorities have already floated tenders. The tender process is expected to be completed in the first week of September and the works will be taken up later.
According to the survey report, the roads coming under Dharwad division have incurred more damage when compared to other divisions of HDMC. The officials of HDMC have estimated that it will cost up to Rs 1.3 crore to fill 20,038 square metres of potholes in twin cities.
In the North division of Hubli, the authorities have estimated a cost Rs 1.7 crore to fill 7,970 square metres of potholes and in the South division of Hubballi, it is estimated to cost Rs 61 lakh to fill potholes of 6,255 square metres.
According to sources, HDMC Commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi, who is very particular about the quality of pothole filling works, has suggested to the officials to take up resurfacing works wherever there are more potholes in a stretch.Thimmappa, Superintending Engineer, HDMC said that the engineers have conducted random survey of potholes because of inadequate time, based on the percentage of road damage potholes identified and prepared list.
