The Brihat Bangalore Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the issue of illicit ‘A’ account certificates across all wards under its jurisdiction. This decision comes in response to allegations of wrongdoing, with claims that Assistant Revenue Officers and Revenue Officers engaged in the unauthorized conversion of ‘B’ accounts into ‘A’ accounts. In light of these concerns, the BBMP has taken action to address the matter. As per the BBMP directive, a total of 3,666 illegal ‘A’ accounts are to be reverted back to ‘B’ accounts, following the order from the Special Commissioner of Finance. This move is intended to rectify instances of improper account conversions. The Special Commissioner, Jayaram Raipur, revealed that numerous complaints have been lodged about such illicit ‘A’ accounts, with around 45,000 properties being illicitly transitioned from ‘B’ accounts to ‘A’ accounts. An initial assessment of the situation indicated that more than 90% of these property conversions were conducted unlawfully. This revelation prompted the decision to launch a comprehensive re-inspection of all such properties situated across Bengaluru. In the process, the roles of the Corporation Revenue Officers are also under scrutiny, and appropriate actions will be taken based on the outcomes of the investigation. The operation began in the RR Nagar sector, where ‘A’ accounts were assigned to ‘B’ properties across various wards. The initiative will involve the reversion of all 3,666 ‘A’ accounts back to their original ‘B’ account status, as ordered by Jayaram Raipur. This extensive effort signifies the BBMP’s commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in property matters within the city.
