Assured Drinking Water Supply Amid Cauvery Dispute: Bengaluru Jal Mandal

Bengaluru

While the ongoing political struggle between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the distribution of Cauvery river water continues, the Bengaluru Jal Mandal has offered reassurances that the supply of drinking water from the Krishna Rajasagar (KRS) reservoir to the capital city will remain uninterrupted. Despite the reservoir’s lower water levels, there are no plans for any disruption in the drinking water supply to Bangalore. However, citizens are urged to use water judiciously to ensure sustainability. In addition to this commitment, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken steps to address the water needs of 110 villages under its jurisdiction. The decision includes drilling new borewells to provide water to these areas. The process will involve identifying suitable locations and obtaining necessary approvals before initiating the drilling. In these designated areas, the corporation will supply water through tanks, ensuring that the communities have access to the essential resource. These measures reflect the local authorities’ proactive approach to managing water resources and maintaining an adequate drinking water supply, especially during times of potential scarcity. As the region navigates its water challenges, cooperation and efficient management remain pivotal for ensuring the well-being of its residents.
