The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has announced its intention to take strong measures against the poaching of wild animals and the illegal sale of their meat. The state has witnessed an increase in such activities, prompting officials to address the issue more rigorously. According to department officials, organized networks are utilizing social media platforms, including WhatsApp, to facilitate the delivery of wildlife meat to customers. This has raised concerns about the impact on the population of various species and the ecological balance. In a recent sting operation conducted by the department in Ramanathapuram district, two individuals were arrested for their involvement in the trade of wildlife meat. Additionally, during raids in several other districts, authorities seized meat from various animals and birds, including wild rabbits, aquatic birds, hares, quail, and francolins. The department is planning to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign across the state to educate the public about the negative consequences of wildlife poaching. The campaign aims to highlight how such activities can disrupt the environment and harm the delicate balance of ecosystems.
