Assam police conducted two separate operations in Hailakandi district, resulting in the seizure of Burmese betel nuts and illegal timber. The actions were carried out based on tip-offs, and officials provided details of the operations on Sunday. In the first operation, conducted on Saturday night following a secret tip-off, the police discovered approximately 300 sacks of Burmese betel nuts that were acquired illegally. The value of the seized betel nuts is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore in the international market. A person named Rusan Uddin Mazarbhuyan was arrested in connection with the smuggling of these betel nuts. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter. In a separate operation, the forest department, in collaboration with the police, seized illegal timber in the southern part of Hailakandi district. The operation took place on Saturday night, but the owner of the timber mill managed to evade capture and fled before the forest department team arrived at the location. These actions highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat illegal activities such as smuggling and the unauthorized acquisition of natural resources.
