I will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. I don’t like today’s politics. I have fought 12 elections. The present political system is not good. Perhaps my last election is over, Yelaburga MLA Basavaraj Rayareddy said.

He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a dinner hosted by him for party workers and leaders in the name of Shravana Sambhrama. It is sad that Karnataka is becoming a brand in terms of corruption. This is not a good development. The Chief Minister should take steps to prevent this, he said.

When the previous BJP government was in power, the contractors were given 40 per cent. He had alleged a 15 percent  commission. Now. They are alleging that it is a 40 percent commission. We had then taken a dig at the BJP. Now they are taking a dig at our party. That is why Karnataka is getting a bad name, he said.

I have already done good work as an MP in the past. I have implemented many schemes like railways, Navodaya, highways, etc. But, people are not talking about them. So if I contest the Lok Sabha elections this time, people will not win me. The current political situation does not suit me. Rayareddy made it clear that he did not want to contest any election again.

The party has nothing to do with politics. Others may say something about hosting a party. He, however, clarified that there was no political motive behind it. In the past, when I was an MLA and MP, I had served food to party workers, officials and the media. There is nothing special about it, he said.
