The Welfare Party of India’s Karnataka Women’s Wing has strongly condemned the brutal gang rape and murder of a young Dalit graduate student from Hokrani village in Sirawara taluk, Raichur district, whose body was subsequently thrown into a well. State president Sabiha Patel expressed deep outrage, stating that the heinous crime has triggered massive concerns regarding women’s safety across the state.
Addressing the media, leaders highlighted a disturbing series of violent crimes targeting women in recent months. Notable cases include the rape and murder of a woman named Ranemma in Karadkal village, the assault of a female police constable on duty in Raichur, the gang rape of a migrant worker in Chamarajanagar district, and the year-long harassment and abuse of a minor girl in Koppal. According to statistics cited by the party, thousands of rape and sexual harassment cases have been officially registered over the past four years, while many more incidents likely remain unreported due to fear or social stigma.
The organization criticized the state administration, arguing that existing protection measures, police teams, and helpline systems remain ineffective at the ground level. Leaders warned that administrative negligence and poor enforcement of legal statutes are creating a fearless environment for repeat offenders.
The women’s wing has demanded a transparent, impartial judicial investigation into all recent atrocities, swift legal trials to punish the guilty, and comprehensive rehabilitation, legal aid, and financial compensation for the victimized families. Activists emphasized that public safety must not be treated as a mere slogan, urging the government to enforce strict accountability across local law enforcement agencies immediately.
