Bengaluru Rural MP Dr C.N. Manjunath has sought urgent intervention to address mobile and internet connectivity problems affecting residents around Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara. He wrote to Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia after raising the issue with Department of Telecommunications Secretary Amit Agarwal.
Manjunath said the installation of the Tower-Harmonious Call Blocking System and high-frequency Wi-Fi jammers around the prison had severely disrupted communication services in neighbouring areas. Residents are reportedly facing difficulties in making calls and accessing the internet, affecting essential daily activities.
The connectivity problems have become particularly challenging during medical emergencies, for students attending online classes and employees working from home. The issue is also significant because the area is close to Electronics City, one of Bengaluru’s major corporate hubs, where reliable connectivity is essential for professionals and businesses.
While stressing that prison security and preventing unauthorised communication by inmates are important, Manjunath said the measures should not adversely affect legitimate communication needs of residents living nearby.
He requested the Department of Telecommunications to examine the issue and explore a suitable technical solution that would maintain prison security while restoring reliable mobile and internet services to the surrounding residential and professional areas.
“Prison security is paramount, but measures to prevent unauthorised communication must not deprive residents of essential mobile and internet services. A suitable technical solution should protect both security and the legitimate communication needs of people living and working nearby.” Dr C.N. Manjunath, Bengaluru Rural MP
