Pro-Hindu activist Puneeth Kerehalli was arrested by the Kumaraswamy Layout Police on Friday following a complaint accusing him of insulting Muslim clerics. Police said the action was taken after a complaint filed by Abdul Razak, and further investigation into the case is continuing.
According to police, officers visited Kerehalli village in Alur taluk, where Puneeth Kerehalli was staying, and took him into custody. During the arrest, he allegedly criticised the state government and claimed that he had been unfairly targeted. Authorities have not announced further details regarding the investigation or any additional charges.
Speaking during the arrest, Puneeth Kerehalli claimed that his life was under threat and said he had earlier filed a complaint against Abdul Razak. He questioned why action had been taken only against him and alleged that the Congress government had misused its power. He also claimed that a conspiracy had been planned against him.
The arrest drew emotional scenes at his residence as his mother broke down in tears while police escorted him away. Videos capturing the incident quickly spread across social media, attracting widespread public attention and reactions. Police have not commented on the viral videos but confirmed that the investigation will continue based on the complaint and available evidence.
