Kempegowda celebration faces disruption over political protest

CHIKKABALLAPURA

A tense situation developed during the Kempegowda Jayanti celebration held in Chikkaballapura city after some JDS supporters expressed anger against MLA Pradeep Eshwar. The incident created confusion at the venue for some time before police officials stepped in and brought the situation under control.

The event was organised by the National Festivals Celebration Committee and the district administration at Kannada Bhavan on BB Road. During the programme, some JDS workers and members of the Vokkaliga community raised slogans against MLA Pradeep Eshwar. They demanded that he be removed from the stage, leading to an argument between groups.

The situation became heated when activists gathered at the venue and a disagreement turned into a minor clash. Police personnel immediately intervened to prevent further escalation. Officials worked to calm the crowd, and some people were reportedly taken into custody as part of efforts to maintain peace.

After the programme ended, another tense moment occurred when a group of people surrounded the vehicle of MLA Pradeep Eshwar. The supporters continued expressing their anger while the MLA addressed the gathering from his vehicle.

During the incident, a person allegedly threw slippers towards the MLA’s car, creating further disturbance. Police attempted to detain the individual involved, but some people objected, resulting in another brief confrontation. Security personnel managed to control the situation and clear the area.

The incident caused concern among attendees as the celebration, which was meant to honour the legacy of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, was affected by political disagreements. Authorities maintained security arrangements and ensured that the programme continued without major disruption.

Later, MLA Pradeep Eshwar spoke about the incident and expressed disappointment over the behaviour of those involved. He condemned the actions and said such disturbances were not appropriate during public programmes.

Officials stated that necessary steps would be taken to maintain law and order. They also appealed to political groups and citizens to respect public events and avoid conflicts during cultural and social gatherings.

The Kempegowda Jayanti programme highlighted the need for cooperation and peaceful participation while remembering the contributions of the historic leader.
