LUCKNOW

Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant has been fined ₹12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League match against Chennai Super Kings. The strict disciplinary sanction was officially announced by the league authorities following the conclusion of the highly intense clash at the Ekana Stadium.

According to an official statement, the financial penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct. Because this represented Lucknow’s very first minimum over-rate offence of the ongoing tournament, the penalty remained restricted to a baseline fine for the skipper rather than drawing harsher team suspensions.

The disciplinary dampener was the only negative takeaway for the home side on an otherwise spectacular night. Riding on an incredible bowling spell by Akash Singh, who dismantled the top order with a fantastic three-wicket haul, Lucknow managed to restrict Chennai to a competitive score of 187. For Chennai, young batter Kartik Sharma anchored the innings beautifully with a career-best score of 71, while Shivam Dube provided late acceleration.

Lucknow’s chase turned into an absolute masterclass as opening batsmen Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis put together a massive 135-run partnership. Marsh played a scintillating knock, smashing a brutal 90 runs off just 38 balls before an unfortunate run-out cut his dream innings short. Following a minor middle-order stumble, power-hitter Nicholas Pooran arrived to smash a rapid 32 off 17 balls, comfortably sealing a thumping seven-wicket victory with 20 balls to spare.
