AAP seeks fair exams after NEET student death

New Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Saturday urged the Central government to assure students that examination paper leaks would not recur, following the death of a NEET aspirant in Delhi.

The 20-year-old student allegedly died by suicide at her residence in the Azadpur area days after appearing for the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has since announced a re-examination on June 21 following allegations of a paper leak.

Bharadwaj visited the family members of the student and described the incident as tragic. He said the student had been preparing for admission to a medical college for several years and had narrowly missed selection in the previous attempt.

According to him, the student was reportedly distressed after allegations surfaced regarding irregularities in the examination process. He also claimed that reports of emotional distress among NEET aspirants were emerging from different parts of the country.

The AAP leader called on the government to publicly assure students that examination systems would remain transparent and secure in the future. He urged authorities to identify those responsible for any irregularities and take appropriate action.

Meanwhile, police officials said the family of the student is being questioned as part of the investigation. Authorities stated that no suicide note was recovered. Officials are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident after the body was reportedly taken for cremation before informing the police.

In a separate incident, another NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri allegedly died by suicide on Thursday. Local authorities are investigating the case.
