Lt General Balbir Singh on Friday assumed charge as the General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based strategic 15 Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps, succeeding Lt General Prashant Srivastava. Lt Gen Srivastava handed over command after a 19-month tenure marked by major counter-terror and counter-infiltration operations, including Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. A battle-hardened officer with over 34 years of service, Lt Gen Balbir Singh has extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations across Jammu and Kashmir and the North East. He had earlier commanded the Counter Insurgency Force (Victor) in South Kashmir. He pledged close coordination with civil authorities to strengthen peace and stability in Kashmir.
