Indiana Hospital offers free asthma screening camp

Mangaluru

Indiana Hospital in Mangaluru has announced a free asthma screening programme to improve awareness and early detection of respiratory conditions among residents.

The camp will be held from May 4 to May 9, coinciding with World Asthma Day initiatives. Hospital officials said the drive aims to address the growing burden of asthma cases and encourage timely diagnosis and treatment.

According to doctors involved in the programme, asthma remains a commonly misunderstood condition despite affecting a large population in India. The initiative will provide free consultations with pulmonology specialists for participants during the camp period.

Patients requiring further evaluation will be offered spirometry tests at a 50% discounted rate. The test helps measure lung function and plays a key role in diagnosing and assessing the severity of asthma.

Medical experts highlighted that India accounts for a significant share of global asthma cases and related deaths, stressing the importance of awareness and regular medical check-ups. They also clarified misconceptions about inhalers, stating that they are safe, effective, and non-addictive when used correctly.

The hospital has encouraged individuals experiencing symptoms such as breathlessness, persistent coughing, or chest tightness to participate in the screening. Early detection, doctors said, can help prevent complications and improve long-term disease management.

The initiative is expected to benefit a large number of residents in and around Mangaluru by improving access to preventive respiratory healthcare.
