Kadaba garbage crisis sparks protests as residents demand urgent action over overflowing waste and health risks.
Mangaluru
A growing garbage crisis at the solid waste management unit in Kodimbala near Kadaba in Mangaluru has sparked protests from residents, who are demanding urgent civic action to address worsening sanitation conditions.
Locals allege that the facility, which was meant to streamline waste processing in the region, is now overflowing with unprocessed garbage. They say that while waste collection continues daily, it is being dumped without proper segregation or treatment, leading to severe accumulation at the site.
Residents reported that large piles of waste have covered expensive machinery, raising concerns about mismanagement of public infrastructure and financial resources. The situation has also led to a strong foul smell spreading to nearby residential areas, making daily life increasingly difficult.
With the monsoon approaching, fears of mosquito breeding and disease outbreaks have intensified. The area has previously witnessed dengue-related fatalities, adding to public concern over health risks.
Locals and civic representatives have accused the panchayat of collecting waste management fees without ensuring proper service delivery. Residents staged a protest and even stopped a garbage collection vehicle, demanding immediate corrective action.
While panchayat officials have cited manpower shortages and technical issues, they assured that steps are being taken to clear accumulated waste and restore operations. However, residents say they will continue their agitation until concrete improvements are visible on the ground.
