Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has announced a significant escalation in Ukraine’s military strategy, revealing that the country is extending the range of its strikes deep into Russian territory. The move marks a new phase in the conflict as Kyiv intensifies efforts to weaken Russia’s war capabilities and disrupt its economic backbone.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on Wednesday that Ukraine would continue to expand the reach of its long-range attacks, sharing footage that he claimed showed a successful strike at a distance exceeding 1,500 kilometers inside Russia. The announcement highlights Ukraine’s growing military capability and its increasing reliance on advanced drone and missile systems to carry out deep strikes.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has stepped up its offensive strategy by targeting critical Russian infrastructure, particularly oil refineries, pumping stations, storage depots, and port facilities. These sites are considered vital to Moscow’s war economy, as energy exports remain one of Russia’s primary sources of revenue. By striking these assets, Ukraine aims to weaken Russia’s financial capacity to sustain prolonged military operations.
Zelenskiy described the latest attack as “a new stage” in the use of Ukrainian weapons, emphasizing that such operations are designed to limit Russia’s war potential. He noted that the straight-line distance of the strike exceeded 1,500 kilometers and confirmed that Ukraine would continue to extend its operational reach in the coming weeks.
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) later reported that its drones successfully hit an oil pumping station near the Russian city of Perm during the overnight operation. The attack demonstrates Ukraine’s ability to penetrate deep into Russian territory with increasing precision. Additionally, a separate drone strike on Tuesday caused a major fire at an oil refinery in the Black Sea port of Tuapse, marking the third such attack on the facility within a span of less than two weeks.
Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the strikes, calling them attacks on civilian infrastructure and accusing Ukraine of escalating the conflict further. As both sides intensify their military actions, the situation continues to evolve, raising concerns about a prolonged and more destructive phase of the war.
