Legendary filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has sent waves of excitement through the global film community by declaring his upcoming project, Varanasi, as his most ambitious work to date. Speaking at the CCXP Mexico 2026 event, the visionary director shared his grand dreams for the film, which features South Indian superstar Mahesh Babu in the leading role.
Rajamouli, known for his larger-than-life storytelling, explained that his inspiration for this project comes from the heart of India’s heritage. He noted that the country’s ancient temples and stunning architectural history have always fascinated him. For Varanasi, the production design will draw heavily from the majestic aura of Kasi, aiming to recreate the timeless glory of India’s rich temple structures on the silver screen. Fans can expect breathtaking palace sequences and a visual style that celebrates the nation’s artistic soul.
The film boasts a truly international appeal with a stellar cast. Global star Priyanka Chopra joins as the female lead, while the versatile Prithviraj Sukumaran will take on the role of the powerful antagonist. The project is being produced by KL Narayana under the Sri Durga Arts banner, with the legendary MM Keeravani composing the musical score.
