The Indian Women’s Hockey Team has launched a high intensity goalkeeping camp at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Bengaluru. Running from April 22 to May 2, the camp is led by renowned international expert David Williamson. This specialized training aims to fortify India’s defense as the team prepares for a demanding international schedule, including the Nations Cup in June and the upcoming Asian Games.

Under the guidance of Williamson and Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne, star veteran Savita is training alongside promising keepers Bansari Solanki, Bichu Devi Kharibam, and Madhuri Kindo. Marijne noted that the unit is building on strong momentum from their recent tour of Argentina. By involving junior players in the senior camp, the coaching staff is ensuring a seamless transition for the next generation of Indian talent.

The initiative is supported by the Coca Cola India Foundation, which has become a key partner in developing the sport at all levels. Savita expressed her excitement, stating that such professional backing gives younger athletes the confidence to pursue hockey as a career. The foundation also recently supported the 16th Sub Junior Women’s National Championship, where Jharkhand emerged as champions.

With the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in New Zealand just weeks away, the focus in Bengaluru is on razor sharp execution. Coach Marijne believes this concentrated training period is vital for the goalkeepers to reach peak form. As India looks to climb the global rankings, this specialized camp represents a crucial step in turning their defensive unit into an impenetrable wall on the world stage.
