Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has urged India’s telecom industry to transition from a services-driven approach to design-led innovation, emphasizing greater investment in research and development. He stressed that owning core technologies and product design is essential for global competitiveness, especially with emerging 6G technologies. Highlighting institutions like the Centre for Development of Telematics, he called for stronger indigenous capabilities to reduce import dependence. Increased R&D spending, he noted, can boost exports, create intellectual property, and strengthen supply chain resilience. He also advocated deeper collaboration between industry, academia, and government to accelerate innovation in 5G and future telecom technologies. This will position India as a global leader.
