Delays dog SpiceJet, Bengaluru-Kolkata flight grounded for hours

BENGALURU

Fresh disruption unfolded at Kempegowda International Airport after SpiceJet flight SG768 from Bengaluru to Kolkata was delayed for several hours due to a technical snag, adding to growing passenger complaints over repeated delays and poor communication.

Passengers said the flight, originally scheduled to depart around 2 pm, remained grounded even past 10 pm, with no clear updates from the airline. Travellers alleged they were left waiting at the boarding gate with minimal staff presence and inadequate assistance.

Anupam Mitra, one of the passengers, said the delay began with a brief announcement but gradually stretched into hours without resolution. He also claimed that despite the prolonged wait and ticket costs exceeding ₹10,000, no refund or proper support was provided.

Airport officials later attributed the delay to aircraft maintenance issues. However, passengers expressed frustration over the lack of transparency and communication from airline staff throughout the ordeal.

The incident adds to a series of recent complaints against the airline. On April 22, a passenger alleged a 26-hour delay on flight SG269 and claimed he was made to pay ₹5,250 at the airport under what he described as an unclear policy. On the same day, another flight was delayed by nearly four hours, causing disruption to onward travel plans and triggering protests by passengers at the airport.

Frequent delays have raised concerns among travellers over operational reliability and customer service standards, with many demanding stricter accountability and better communication protocols from the airline.
