The incident occurred at Nanthoor junction, where traffic police officials were managing vehicle movement to prevent congestion. According to police sources, constable Maligera Halesh, along with head constables Praveen and Champa, were stationed at the junction to regulate traffic flow during peak hours.
During the operation, a motorcycle rider reportedly parked his vehicle across the road stretching from Padavu towards Bikarnakatte, causing significant obstruction to other commuters. The improper parking led to disruption in traffic movement, prompting constable Halesh to approach the rider and instruct him to move the motorcycle to the side of the road.
Instead of complying with the instructions, the rider allegedly began verbally abusing the constable. Observing the escalating situation, head constables Praveen and Champa intervened and attempted to de-escalate the matter. They advised the rider to park his motorcycle properly and discuss the issue calmly.
However, the situation took a violent turn when the rider allegedly assaulted head constable Praveen, striking him on the face. As constable Halesh and head constable Champa tried to restrain the accused and control the situation, a woman accompanying the rider reportedly joined the confrontation. She allegedly threatened the police personnel, stating that she would physically attack them with her slippers.
The rider then escalated the incident further by snatching Praveen’s mobile phone and smashing it on the ground. The device was severely damaged, with the estimated loss reported to be around Rs 28,000.
Following the incident, a case was registered at Kadri police station against the accused for assaulting on-duty public servants, causing obstruction, and damaging government property. Police officials have initiated further investigation and are taking necessary legal action in the matter.
