New Delhi
The Delhi Assembly received another bomb threat through email on Monday, raising serious security concerns and prompting Speaker Vijender Gupta to seek urgent action from the Delhi Police.
According to officials, the threatening email was received at 11.12 a.m. on the Assembly’s official email ID. It contained alarming claims about explosives being used inside the Assembly premises. This is not the first such incident in recent weeks.
Earlier, on March 25, a similar email claimed that 16 RDX based improvised explosive devices had been planted inside the Assembly building and would be detonated before the House session. However, after a thorough search, the threat was found to be a hoax.
In a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, Speaker Gupta highlighted the repeated threats sent to both the Assembly’s official email and his personal email. He said these messages are creating fear among staff and affecting the normal functioning of the institution.
Gupta stressed that the Assembly is an important democratic institution and any threat to it must be taken seriously. He urged the police to trace the source of these emails, take strict action against those responsible, and strengthen security measures around the premises.
The Assembly has also witnessed other security incidents recently. On April 6, a man drove through the high security gates of the complex and managed to escape. In another case on April 9, the Delhi Secretariat also received a bomb threat email, which later turned out to be false.
