Shivamogga
The Shivamogga District Court has sentenced R.S. Parameshwarappa, district manager of the Devaraja Arasu Backward Classes Development Corporation, to two years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹40,000 for demanding a bribe to drill a tube well under the Ganga Kalyan Yojana.
The case dates back to 2016 when HS Janardhan, a resident of Talagunda village in Sagar taluk, was selected for the scheme. Parameshwarappa demanded ₹10,000 from Janardhan to approve the drilling of the tube well. Janardhan filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which conducted a raid in July 2017. Parameshwarappa was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in his office.
Chandrappa, vice president of the ACB, led the investigation and submitted the charges to the court. After the prosecution proved the allegations, Judge Abhay Dhanpal Chaugala delivered the sentence.
This case highlights the continued vigilance of the ACB in cracking down on corruption in public welfare schemes.
