Fake number plate row: Lamborghini seized again, trouble mounts for Ricky Rai

BENGALURU

Fresh trouble has emerged for Ricky Rai, son of former don Muthappa Rai, as authorities intensified action in a fraud case involving the use of a fake number plate on a luxury Lamborghini.

According to investigators, the vehicle was being driven with the number plate KA 05 NR0009, which was found to be unregistered in official Regional Transport Office (RTO) records. The misuse of the number led to the registration of a fraud case.

Police have seized the Lamborghini once again and placed it under Property Form (PF), submitting it before a court as part of the ongoing probe. Authorities have also issued a notice asking Ricky Rai to appear for questioning.

This is not the first instance of action against the vehicle. Earlier, Cubbon Park traffic police had seized the car for reckless drifting on city roads.

Officials said Rai had reportedly purchased the vehicle in Delhi and later paid ₹5 lakh to obtain a fancy number. However, the number was never formally registered to the car. Despite being fined ₹35 lakh by the RTO in October for violations, the car continued to be used with the unregistered plate.

The repeated violations, including dangerous driving and misuse of registration, have escalated the matter into a criminal investigation.

Sources said Rai has now applied for proper registration at the Central RTO but must first clear the pending ₹35 lakh fine and applicable taxes.

Meanwhile, authorities believe Rai is currently in Russia, even as they await his appearance for further questioning in the case.
