World body slams Pakistan’s border rocket attacks

KABUL

The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) has issued a stern warning to Pakistan, demanding an immediate end to military strikes on civilian areas in Afghanistan.

Calling the recent shelling of residential neighborhoods “war crimes,” the global rights group urged the United Nations to investigate the violence. The call for action follows reports of heavy weaponry and mortar rounds hitting homes in the provinces of Paktika, Khost, and Kunar.

The situation turned deadly, when rocket fire struck areas near Asadabad. Local officials confirmed that one person was killed and sixteen others, including women and children, were injured in the assault. Taliban spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat accused Pakistani forces of deliberately targeting civilian homes, forcing many families to flee and sparking fears of a growing humanitarian crisis.

Under international law, armies must distinguish between military targets and innocent families. The IHRF stressed that “blind attacks” on homes and farms cause not just physical destruction but deep psychological scars. While Pakistan claims its operations target militants hiding across the border, the Taliban has rejected these excuses, pointing to the rising number of civilian victims instead.

The border has seen a sharp increase in fighting since a brief Eid ceasefire collapsed. With tensions at an all-time high, the IHRF is calling on humanitarian groups to provide urgent aid to displaced families. They reminded both nations that protecting human dignity is a requirement, not a choice, even in times of war.
