In a shocking incident in Janatha Colony, Sulibele, Hosakote taluk, authorities rescued an 8-month-old baby boy after receiving a complaint that he was to be sacrificed for money.
The Child Protection Unit, Child Line, Women and Children Department, and Sulibele police raided the house of Syed Imran. Officials found a dug hole inside a room along with suspicious pooja materials.
Speaking to the media, Child Development Project Officer Shivamma said the complaint came through the children’s helpline. “The child was being kept in the house for the purpose of extracting funds,” she said. The parents reportedly resisted handing over the baby, claiming they were raising him and not planning a sacrifice.
The parents stated that they had adopted the child, but no legal documents were available to substantiate the claim. “We will present the child before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Monday, record the parents’ statement, and take further action,” Shivamma added.
The child is currently in a children’s home for safety. Authorities have prepared a preliminary report and plan to file a formal FIR after the CWC hearing. Shivamma stressed that such cases must be referred to the CWC, which will decide the next steps to ensure the child’s protection and initiate legal proceedings against those involved.
The investigation highlights the critical role of helplines and child protection units in preventing potential crimes against minors, ensuring timely intervention to safeguard vulnerable children.
