The year may be marked by extreme weather events, political upheavals and heightened global tensions

The New Year 2026 is expected to unfold as a period of both promise and unpredictability, according to the Hindu astrological calendar, Sringeri Sharada Peetha Dharmadhikari Daivajna KN Somayaji has said. While the year is likely to bring economic growth, stronger trade ties and technological breakthroughs.
Speaking ahead of the New Year, Somayaji said 2026, particularly for India, would be shaped by economic expansion, political shifts and environmental challenges.
At the global level, several countries may witness improved financial stability and better international relations. However, Somayaji cautioned that the year could also see natural calamities such as unusually heavy rainfall, landslides and extreme weather events in unexpected regions. Certain parts of the world may experience war-like situations or heightened geopolitical tensions. He also predicted that the death of a prominent Western leader could lead to confusion and uncertainty, altering political equations in that region.
Despite these challenges, the overall global economic outlook for 2026 is forecast to be favourable, with financial easing and stronger growth trajectories. For India, the outlook remains largely positive. Somayaji said the country is expected to receive good monsoon rainfall, resulting in bountiful agricultural output and increased industrial production. Export markets are likely to expand significantly, boosting overall economic growth. The stock market is expected to perform well, with strong activity in Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), while India may also attract substantial Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the year. The bullion market is projected to remain bullish, with gold and silver prices continuing to rise. The real estate sector, too, is expected to witness robust growth, driven by strong demand and fresh investments.
On the agricultural front, commercial crops such as rubber, coffee, tobacco and sugarcane are likely to see considerable growth, though production of tea and oilseeds may decline. The food production and processing industry is expected to expand rapidly, while dairy production could reach new highs, with India beginning to export a wider range of dairy products. The transport and hospitality sectors are also forecast to see major investments, with strong growth in hotels, resorts and aviation, and the possible entry of new airline operators.
