As part of the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava and the 121st birth anniversary of Rashtrakavi Kuvempu, a free eye check-up camp for auto drivers was inaugurated on Sunday at the Taluk Sports Ground in Koppal. The programme was organised by the H. Shivaramegowda faction of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and formally launched at 10.15 am with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and floral tributes to Kuvempu’s portrait.
Inaugurating the programme, State Vice-President Ajjappa Karadakal said that every activity undertaken by organisations should benefit society and serve as a model for others. He noted that auto drivers from across Koppal district actively participated in the free eye examination camp. He assured that the organisation would continue to extend various welfare facilities for auto drivers in the future. Highlighting Kuvempu’s contributions, Karadakal said the great writer’s literature, love for Kannada land and language, and progressive thoughts should serve as guiding principles for today’s youth. He called upon citizens to actively contribute to the growth of Kannada language, culture, and literature.
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike District President Shivraj Ullagaddi emphasised the importance of eye health, stating that eyes are among the most vital organs of the human body and play a crucial role in daily life. He said that regular eye check-ups are essential, especially for auto drivers who spend long hours on the road. He added that such free medical camps greatly contribute to safeguarding the health of drivers.
District General Secretary Nagaraj C. Honakeri said the successful organisation of the eye check-up camp was possible due to the collective efforts of district and taluk-level office-bearers along with state leaders of the organisation. He expressed satisfaction over the large turnout and smooth conduct of the programme.
