CM Siddaramaiah launches Pulse Polio drive

Bengaluru

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday launched the three-day Pulse Polio Immunisation Drive across Karnataka by administering polio drops to a child at his official residence, Krishna. Marking National Immunisation Day (Pulse Polio) 2025, the Chief Minister appealed to parents to ensure that all children below the age of five receive the vaccine without fail.

He urged families with young children to visit their nearest vaccination centres between December 21 and December 24 and get the mandatory two drops administered. Emphasising the importance of the campaign, Siddaramaiah said the simple act of giving two drops of polio vaccine protects a child’s future from lifelong disability and strengthens the national goal of a polio-free India.

The state aims to cover approximately 62.40 lakh children during the campaign. Vaccination will be prioritised at government and private hospitals, anganwadi centres, construction sites, brick kilns, slums, remote habitations, bus stands and railway stations. On Sunday, vaccination is being conducted at designated booths, followed by door-to-door visits over the next two to three days.

Special focus has been placed on migrant and slum children to ensure no child is missed. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said India has been polio-free for 14 years but vigilance remains essential, as polio cases continue in neighbouring countries.
