Indian spinner Varun Chakaravarthy said he is deliberately putting pressure on himself as part of his preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The mystery bowler has been India’s standout performer in the ongoing T20I series against South Africa, picking up six wickets in three innings so far.
India lead the five match series 2-1, with the fourth game abandoned due to fog. The final match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where India will aim to seal the series with a 3-1 result. South Africa will look to level the series and finish strongly against one of the top teams from the last T20 World Cup.
Speaking ahead of the final match, Chakaravarthy said confidence and mindset have played a big role in his recent success. He explained that his main focus is on bowling the right lengths and trusting his basic skills rather than trying too many variations.
The spinner also reflected on his early struggles at the international level. He said those experiences helped him understand his game better and pushed him to work harder in practice. Playing regularly at the highest level, he added, helps players know where they stand.
Chakaravarthy believes creating mental pressure is necessary, even in matches that feel comfortable. He said challenging himself will help him stay sharp and prepared for big tournaments. Understanding opponents and backing strengths are lessons he wants to carry into the World Cup.
With the final T20I approaching, Chakaravarthy hopes to continue his good form and help India end the series strongly and confidently together.
