Tourists barred from Chikkamagaluru Hills temporarily

Deputy Commissioner C.N. Meena Nagaraj announced a tourist ban at key sites from December 1, 6 a.m. to December 5, 6 a.m.

CHIKKAMAGALURU

Chikkamagaluru district administration has announced a temporary ban on tourists visiting hill stations in the Chandradrona range from December 1 to 5 due to the annual Datta Jayanti celebrations atop Bababudangiri.

The event, organised by Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, is expected to attract thousands of devotees from across Karnataka. Authorities have imposed the restrictions to ensure safety, as heavy rains have caused potholes and occasional landslides on the roads connecting Kaimara to the hill stations.

Deputy Commissioner C.N. Meena Nagaraj clarified that the ban applies to tourists visiting popular spots including Mullayanagiri, Seethalayyanaigir, Sri Guru Dattatreya Bababudan Swamy Dargah, Galikere, and Manikya Dhara. The restriction will be in effect from 6 a.m. on December 1 to 6 a.m. on December 5.

However, local residents and visitors who have booked homestays or resorts well in advance are exempted and will be allowed to access the hill stations. Officials urged all visitors to cooperate and follow safety measures during the busy festival days.

The administration has also put in place additional arrangements to handle large crowds and prevent accidents. Authorities hope the temporary ban will ensure smooth celebrations without any untoward incidents.

The decision highlights the district’s focus on balancing religious festivities with public safety, especially in hilly areas prone to road damage during monsoon and winter months.
