Children are the true asset of the nation, and it is our collective responsibility to guide them into becoming responsible global citizens, said Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, M. Vijay. He was speaking after inaugurating the district-level Children’s Day celebration held at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium on Friday. The event was organised by the Directorate of Child Protection, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, Department of Women and Child Development, and the District Child Protection Unit under the theme Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao.

Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that children must receive proper support, protection, quality education, and opportunities that help them grow and compete confidently at the global level. He urged children to raise their voices against social evils like child marriage and report any issues to concerned authorities. Student life, he said, is a golden phase, and children should focus not only on academics but also creative and extracurricular activities to grow into responsible citizens.

Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Dr. Rangaswamy highlighted the importance of children’s village assemblies (Makkala Grama Sabhas), which give children a platform to express their opinions on their rights, challenges, and village development. Issues such as education, midday meals, sanitation, cleanliness, and transportation are discussed, and solutions are initiated through these forums, he added.

Child Welfare Committee Chairperson P. Sheela described children as fountains of energy who bring peace and joy. She stressed the need for both internal and external education for their holistic development.

On this occasion, students including Swapna from Reddihalli (Challakere) and Gangamma from Molakalmuru, along with high scorers in SSLC and PUC exams under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme, were honoured. District-level competitions such as essay writing and drawing were also conducted, and prizes were distributed to winners. Several officials from various departments participated in the event.
